Tong Systems

Your network runs 24/7. Your team doesn't.

We keep the work moving after your engineers go home. Thirty years across carrier, ISP and financial networks.

Off-hours engineering coverage, scoped projects, and engineers placed inside your team. Our specialty is US overnights — your engineers hand off at the end of their day and pick the work back up in the morning. Your overnight is our business day.

What we do

Off-hours engineering

Your project doesn't stop when your engineers go home. We pick up the work at the end of your day, execute inside the maintenance window, and hand back a written report before you start.

The same applies to escalations. Anything that lands after hours gets worked rather than queued, so your on-call isn't woken for problems that can be solved.

Projects

Scoped engineering with an end date. Migrations, data centre consolidation, peering and interconnect build-out, capacity work, config standardisation, MOP authoring.

  • Circuit and service migration
  • Platform refresh
  • Core and edge design
  • Runbook development

Engineers in your team

An engineer working in your tooling, your ticketing and your change process, reporting to your leads. Part-time or full-time, monthly rolling. Usually to cover a vacancy or a project spike without hiring against it.

Recent work

Overnight engineering support

Large carrier

Tier 3+ engineers covering US overnight hours. Anything the support desk couldn't resolve came to us — we log into the equipment and work the fault through to resolution rather than holding it for the morning.

Layer 1 through Layer 3: optical and physical faults, EPL and Ethernet services, routing and BGP. Triage, troubleshooting, escalation and scheduled maintenance.

Data centre consolidation

Large ISP, post-merger

An ISP carrying duplicated footprint after several mergers — overlapping infrastructure in the same or neighbouring facilities. The objective is cost reduction: collapse the duplication without customers noticing.

We plan, schedule and execute the migrations, physical and logical, inside maintenance windows, then maintain the consolidated estate afterwards. All of it runs in their local off-hours.

Layer 3 escalation

Global ISP

Acting as their Layer 3 escalation point. Peering and IX faults, routing around blackholes, rebalancing traffic across congested paths.

Senior engineering support

Financial clearing firm

Overnight US coverage for a large financial network. Enterprise support and escalation, exchange connectivity faults, and low-latency troubleshooting where the tolerance for error is measured differently than on a carrier network.

After-hours escalation

Network operator

A lean team with no overnight engineering bench. We take escalations outside their working hours and resolve what can be resolved, going to their on-call only when it genuinely needs them. Their morning starts with a report rather than a backlog.

How staffing works

Your engineers are named in the contract, and you meet them before they start. The same people work your account — not a rotating pool, and nothing handed to a subcontractor you weren't told about.

Every engineer has between ten and thirty years on production carrier networks, and holds current Cisco or Juniper certification. Where a project needs specialist skills or additional hours, we draw on engineering resource across several regions.

Tong Systems was founded and is run by a working network engineer, not a sales organisation. The person you talk to first is the person accountable for the work.

Why we do this

After thirty years as a network engineer, you come to appreciate being able to sleep at night. Plenty of operations still expect their engineers to be on call twenty-four hours a day, and we lived that first-hand for most of our careers.

We want you to get a good night's sleep and come in to a peaceful morning, with progress made on your projects.

Ways to start

A scoped project

Fixed price where the scope allows it. Judge us on delivery.

Flexible terms

Coverage on whichever hours you're thinnest on. Monthly, quarterly or for the length of a project — and easy to change as your needs do.

One engineer, one month

Meet them first. Rolling monthly after that.
